16) Market

The markets button gives a variety of information pertaining to the markets as a whole. All of the information in Markets is updated with end-of-day data at approximately 3 p.m. EST. There are five folders, or tabs, across the top of the Markets window: Index, Momentum, Money Flow, New Highs/Lows and Unusual Volume. Click "OK" or the "X" in the upper-right hand corner to close the Markets window.

  • Index --The index folder presents a five-month line chart of the Dow Jones Industrial Average along with current quotes from the DJIA, Nasdaq, and S&P 500. Below that are five sets of data. In each case, the results are displayed as the most recent end-of-day data, an average of the last week's results (Week Average) and an average of the last month's results (Month Average).

Advance/Decline Ratio (%): This result is calculated by taking the number of publicly traded stocks that increased in price, and dividing it by the number of stocks that declined in value. If the number of stocks that went up was 3,000 and the number that declined was 2,000, the Advance/Decline Ratio would be 1.5. Conversely, if the number of stocks that increased in value was 2,000 and the number that declined was 3,000, then the Advance/Decline Ration would be 0.66. Stocks for which the price was unchanged are not included in the calculation.

IQC Zone Green/Red Ratio: This result is calculated by taking the number of stocks for which IQC Zone is "Green" and dividing it by the number of stocks where IQC Zone is "Red". IQC Zone is a proprietary indicator developed by the IQC Corporation. Stocks for which IQC Zone does not have a green/red color are not included in the calculations.

One-Year New Highs: This is the number of stocks that closed at or above their 52-week high (based on closing prices).

One-Year New Lows: This is the number of stocks that closed at or above their 52-week low (based on closing prices).

50-Day Moving Average Above 200-Day Moving Average vs. below: This result is calculated by taking the number of stocks for which the value of 50-day Moving Average is above that of the 200-Day Moving Average, and dividing it by the number of stocks for which the 50-day MA is below the 200-Day MA.

  • Momentum --This folder provides a list of stocks with the highest increase in value over three periods: 5 days, 10 days, and 25 days. This is calculated by dividing the most recent closing price by the closing price at the beginning of the period. The top 10 results are given in each category. All prices and net change data given are from the date posted at the top of the folder. Double-clicking on any of the stocks will display the chart in the main window of SwingTracker.

  • Money Flow --This folder provides a list of stocks with highest or lowest values of money flow during the most recent day of trading. All prices and net change data given are from the date posted at the top of the folder. Double-clicking on any of the stocks will display the chart in the main window of SwingTracker.

  • New H/L --This folder ranks the top 10 stocks with 52-week highs and top 10 stocks with 52-week lows by the number of shares transacted (volume). The total number of new highs/lows for the day can be found in the Index folder. Double-clicking on any of the stocks will display the chart in the main window of SwingTracker.

  • Volume --This folder looks at stocks with high volume over the past five days or 15 days compared with the average volume over the past three months. The top 10 stocks in each category are listed. Double-clicking on any of the stocks will display the chart in the main window of SwingTracker.
